The issue no one is talking about My problem is studies show there is more sexual violence\ assault against people with intellectual disabilities than without yet, everyone I talk to says they've never heard of it. I get it, i had never heard of it and actually thought our intellectually delayed daughter would be the safest of our girls. until one day that all changed and now I've learned that it happens more often and yet there is nothing or very little being done to help victims or their families .

There also isn't much being done to protect them.

Did you know that sex traffickers and pedophiles use techniques like manipulation? sure you understand that but our peeps with intellectual and developmental delays don't understand things like manipulation or red flags of danger. As parents of a mentally vulnerable adult we have found a large legal loop hole that the bad use in order to prey on our peeps.

JUST BECAUSE YOU DON"T WANT TO BELIEVE IT, DOES"NT MAKE IT UNTRUE....

Did you know at the age of 18 our daughter was searched out, told lies and promised a bunch of things that she could never receive at home. Once the pedophiles had her in their custody they were able to convince her she needed to stay with them for her safety. At this point is where our nightmare really started..... as a mom i didn't care how old she was, shes my daughter. yes, shes 18 but mentally shes not capable of knowing danger or how to get herself out of it. In my eyes...our daughter had been kidnapped. When they located her I was told they know where she is but , legally we cant do anything because she is telling the police she wants to stay with them and they are now her boyfriends. Thankfully, the officer recognized she couldn't comprehend the amount of danger she was in and baker acted her. This allowed us the time to get the court order providing guardianship ( the most important part of this, GET CORRECT GUARDIANSHIP prior to 18} we needed this in order to bring our daughter home and further protect her.
